Pontederia crassipes is the common water hyacinth, which is  aquatic plant of Amazon  river and it is an invasive species. In aquatic plants that float over the surface of the water,Water hyacinth floats on water due to presence of large air cavities in the parenchyma tissue. These specialised parenchyma tissue are called aerenchyma. This tissue has air-filled spaces inside and because the air gets trapped inside especially in the stem part.
