Question: Enlist the components of indian parliament?
The Indian Parliament consists of three main components:
The President: The President of India is an integral part of the Parliament and plays a key role in the legislative process. The President summons and prorogues Parliament sessions and gives assent to bills passed by both Houses to become law.
Rajya Sabha (Council of States):
This is the upper house of Parliament.
Members are elected by the elected members of State Legislative Assemblies and by the members of the Electoral college for Union Territories, using a single transferable vote through proportional representation.
It represents the states and union territories of India.
The Rajya Sabha has a maximum strength of 250 members, of which 12 are nominated by the President for their expertise in specific fields like literature, science, art, and social service.
Lok Sabha (House of the People):
This is the lower house of Parliament.
Members are directly elected by the people of India through general elections.
It represents the people of India.
The Lok Sabha can have up to 552 members, including representatives from the states, union territories, and up to 2 Anglo-Indian members nominated by the President if he/she believes the community is not adequately represented.
These three components work together to legislate and govern the country, ensuring that both regional and national interests are represented.
