Question: How long does it take for a banana peel to decompose?
The lifespan of a banana peel is directly proportional to the temperature and amount of sunlight it receives. The warmer the climate, the faster the peel decomposes. The main reason for that is photo degradation. The peel decomposes faster if it gets enough sunlight. The peel can take up to 2 years to decompose in the wild. Theoretically, the peel has the potential to decompose fully. But, in reality, the peel probably won't decompose fully. It’s highly unlikely that the peel will turn into compost. In fact, it’s impossible. The peel doesn’t decompose fully because of the presence of different chemicals like pectin, starch, cellulose and lignin. That is why there are various limitations to producing paper out of banana peels.
