Question: How are duns and duars formed?
Duns and duars are formed by a form of “stick and slash” percussion that is popular in India and South Asia. Traditionally, duns and duars are made up of two drums - one big drum (the "dun") and one small drum (the "duar") - and a stick for playing them. The dun is played with both hands and the duar is played with one hand. Both drums are set up adjacent to each other and a pointed stick is used to scrape and hit the surface of both drums simultaneously. This produces a rapid and complex combination of beats that can create a wide range of rhythms.
